Appreciating Peking Opera

Peking Opera traces its origins to the Qianlong era of the Qing Dynasty, evolving from the fusion of several regional opera styles including Hui Opera and Han Opera. Through more than two hundred years of development and refinement, it gradually became the most representative form of traditional Chinese theatrical art, and is celebrated as the "national essence" of Chinese culture.In this course, children will explore the origins and historical development of Peking Opera, and take an in-depth look at its costumes, props, character roles, stage movements, vocal styles, music, and set design. But this course goes beyond appreciation — it is about experience! Children will practice fundamental stage movements and martial arts routines, gaining a feel for the skill and artistry of the performers, and discovering in the powerful, rhythmic beats of Peking Opera a world of boundless charm and timeless elegance!
